PVC Second Storey Deck – Elevated Entertainment Space
This project in Vaughan involved building a second-storey PVC deck off the kitchen to create a spacious outdoor area perfect for entertaining. The client had a walkout basement and wanted to preserve functionality both above and below the deck.
Key Features & Design Elements
- Functional Footing PlacementFootings were strategically placed to avoid blocking basement doors and windows, maximizing the usability of the lower-level patio.
- PVC Decking SurfacePVC was chosen for its low-maintenance finish and durability, making it ideal for second-storey applications exposed to the elements.
- Framing for PVC DeckingThe frame was built with 12” on-center joist spacing, and joist tape was applied to protect against moisture and extend the deck’s structural life.
- Clean Stair & Mitered FinishStairs were placed flush with the deck’s edge, creating a comfortable transition and open space below. We also mitered the corners of the deck for a polished look.
- Matching Patio Landing & Side StaircaseA matching landing and stairs were added at the side of the house, featuring the same decking for a cohesive look. A railing was installed at the side door due to elevation.
